You will be moved and inspired by the tragic story of Bollywood disco dancer Mithun Chakraborty. Cheers to Mithun Da’s birthday! In Hindi film, Mithun Chakraborty—a well-known actor and former Rajya Sabha member—made a name for himself after his birth on June 16, 1950.

With the 1976 release of Mrinal Sen’s “Mrigayaa,” where he displayed his acting talent and won his first National Film Award, his career in the film business officially started. His career took off from then as he made appearances in over 350 movies, including hits like Agneepath, Gunda, Disco Dancer, Jung, and Kasam Paddan Wale Ki.

However, Mithun faced several obstacles on the way to success. While stories of starving individuals sleeping on Mumbai’s streets are common, Mithun Chakraborty had to experience this firsthand while pursuing his dream of being a famous actor.

Mithun was born in Hyderabad and was formerly known as Gouranga Chakraborty. He enrolled in the renowned Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and went on to portray the title part in the 1980 movie The Naxalites. Sadly, the movie did not do well at the box office.

In an interview with Mithun Chakraborty for the singing reality series Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs, the singer spoke candidly about the struggles he encountered in his early years of struggle. He said openly, “I used to weep myself to sleep because I had to go to bed on an empty stomach. In fact, there were times when I had to plan my next meal and my sleeping arrangements. I have spent a number of days sleeping on the sidewalk as well.

The actor said he never wanted anybody to go through the struggles he had in life. Additionally, Mithun said that because of his skin tone, he had endured years of contempt and prejudice.

After the 1982 release of Disco Dancer, Mithun Chakraborty became a famous actor. Mithun, who played Jimmy, enthralled viewers with his dazzling dancing movements and engaging on-screen persona. He received much-needed praise thanks to the picture, which connected with audiences. He has gained widespread recognition.

In Mithun Chakraborty: The Dada of Bollywood, written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, it was discovered that Disco Dancer was the first Indian movie to gross more than Rs 100 crore internationally. The previous record was broken by the legendary movie Sholay thanks to this amazing accomplishment.

Chakraborty broke a record by appearing in the most main roles with the success of Disco Dancer. He was the second best paid actor in the business from 1998 to 1999, following in the footsteps of Amitabh Bachchan, and he acted in around 30 movies during that time. He even rose to become the top taxpayer at that time, in addition.

Mithun Chakraborty has recently established himself in the entertainment business by showcasing his versatility by playing a variety of iconic roles in movies like Guru, Chandni Chowk To China, Boss, The Kashmir Files, Oh My God, and the adored Golmaal series. Additionally, he has been on television as a Grandmaster on the well-known reality program Dance India Dance.

We send Mithun Chakraborty our warmest greetings on his 73rd birthday!
