“He is amazing…but it’s still too early”: Former Liverpool player expresses worries about rumors involving Xabi Alonso

At some point, you have to lose, right? According to Xabi Alonso, not yet.

Last week, in their UEFA Europa League quarterfinal match against Qarabag, Bayer Leverkusen gave Xabi Alonso’s team their first genuine fear of losing their winning run, falling down by two goals in the first half. Before you knew it, however, they were back, tying the score and heading home for the second leg after scoring two of their own.

<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-497828″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/theindiaprint.com-he-is-amazing-but-its-still-too-early-former-liverpool-player-expresses-worries-ab.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com he is amazing but its still too early former liverpool player expresses worries ab” width=”974″ height=”730″ title=”"He is amazing…but it's still too early": Former Liverpool player expresses worries about rumors involving Xabi Alonso 3″>

With just one loss so far, Leverkusen is the only unbeaten team in Europe. And recognition follows the outcomes, since Xabi Alonso is now in high demand as a manager in the industry.

One team has emerged as the front-runner to recruit the Spaniard among the likes of Real Madrid and rival Bayern Munich: none other than Xabi’s former residence of five years, Liverpool.

The Merseyside Reds have been searching desperately for a suitable successor to take over at Anfield since they learned that their manager, Jurgen Klopp, would be leaving his position as the team’s best player at the conclusion of the current campaign.

With Klopp having been a transformative presence since he was hired at Anfield back in 2015, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League during an incredible decade of success for the club, whoever takes over will have the unenviable task of trying to keep the Reds in the hunt for major honours. And who else seems to be the greatest option for the team right now, except Alonso?

It seems ideal, don’t you think? A touch too ideal for the likes of Peter Crouch, a former Liverpool player.

Crouch, who played with Alonso for Liverpool, is still hesitant to join with Xabi and expressed concern that the young coach’s opportunity may come too soon, citing his inexperience as a concern.

“Xabi Alonso is probably at the top of Liverpool’s list,” He is doing amazing things at Bayer Leverkusen and is well-versed in Liverpool. I knew him, I played with him. He is an amazing individual. Crouch said on TNT Sports, “You know he’s going to be a coach because he’s very hardworking and always asks questions.”

But given the size of the club, it’s still extremely early. He would also need to replace Klopp.

Although Crouch’s concerns are valid, Alonso has also shown his abilities as a transformational manager.

Alonso’s Leverkusen team, which placed sixth in his first season as manager, has dominated the Bundesliga this year and is on a path to potentially winning the league for the first time in the club’s history. With 10 games left, they are presently 10 points ahead of Bayern Munich.

Alonso may fit into Klopp’s Liverpool team thanks to his offensive style of play and his club knowledge, which might make the move easier.
